How To Avoid Temptation

Updated: Mar 28, 2022

I had a question the other day in which a client of mine asked how to avoid temptation

This is a tricky one for all and Im sure if you are reading this, you have felt the same. Pained by guilt because you over indulged or feel frustrated because everyone else is enjoying the “nice things”

Regardless of where we go, there is and will always be temptation. Those pastries on offer for pennies, the chocolate in the back of the kitchen cupboard, the wine being poured when at a friends house, or the cheesecake being served at a dinner.

Yeah its crappy, but there are ways to handle the next time temptation creeps up on you when wanting to stay on track / and or reach goals

Enjoy the Food! probably not what you were expecting. But if it was for a special occasion, great, i hope you had a fantastic time and you enjoyed every minute of it. just get back on track the next day with simple, whole foods, go out for a walk and its all good

Treats in the house- especially late at night if you have a moment sitting watching telly and eating mainly out of boredom. Best to just throw it out straight away and avoid buying it when you do your weekly shop

Your goal- and this is important. ALWAYS remind yourself of WHY you are doing what you are doing, I.e dropping calories because you want to drop fat, eating well to MAKE you FEEL GOOD. This is a powerful tool and reminding yourself of YOUR WHY will give everything purpose and you a clearer mindset to make better decisions in the moment

Alcohol- usually the hardest one to avoid. But it can be enjoyed while reaching goals. Beer, wine and cocktails are at the higher end of the spectrum in terms of calories, so best sticking to spirts and drinks such as gin and tonic. That way you can enjoy it, YET keep on track

Protein- This is another IMPORTANT ONE. Make sure to eat adequate protein at every meal/ during the day. This is the most satiety macro, in meaning it will keep your full for longer, therefore you will feel less hunger and want snacks/ other foods. 1.75 g per kilo of body weight for women and 2.2g per kilo for men will be sufficient enough.

Try these steps but don’t get dishearten if you “feel like you have failed” the next time temptation hits. We are all learning and growing and its all part of the process. Just know that YOUR goals are the most important and draw focus on that
